Transfer from Minnesota Community Colleges into a Two-Pathway University

Abstract

Adult learners arrive with credits, jobs and scepticism. This paper audits Crownshire transfer maps from Minnesota community colleges into bachelor’s and master’s pathways, online and campus. Clear course equivalencies and a named transfer adviser predicted first-term success better than high-school GPA from a decade earlier. Hidden prerequisites online were as damaging as a parking problem on campus. Crownshire University should publish transfer maps as academic policy. A York-based university that serves working adults is a transfer university, whether or not it likes the word.
